Connected Waste Operations

Turn Bin Conditions into Collection Work

Smart waste-bin monitoring allows operators to check bin conditions remotely instead of relying only on fixed collection schedules or manual inspections.

Compatible smart-bin sensors monitor fill conditions, high temperature, tilt and battery status. Sensor information is transmitted through supported IoT connectivity to Autonautics, giving operational teams centralised visibility, alerts and collection-workflow support.

Anstel integrates and supports the devices, connectivity and Autonautics platform required for the deployment.

The Challenge

Collection Teams Need Information Before Problems Escalate

Waste collection becomes harder when bin conditions, vehicle locations and collection work remain disconnected. Teams may respond too late, visit locations unnecessarily or discover service issues only after someone reports them.

Identify, Schedule, Collect

From Sensor Reading to Completed Collection

  1. Monitor the Bin

A compatible smart-bin sensor measures the condition inside the bin and checks temperature, orientation and battery status at configured intervals.

  2. Send Data to Autonautics

The compatible smart-bin sensor sends information through a supported IoT network to Autonautics.

  3. Alert the Control Room

Autonautics presents the bin status and generates an alert when a configured condition requires attention.

  4. Locate a Collection Vehicle

Operators can review live vehicle locations and identify an appropriate truck or field team.

  5. Schedule the Job

The control-room team can create a collection job, assign it to a driver and provide the required location and task information.

  6. Monitor Completion

Operators can follow vehicle movement and job status until the collection has been completed or requires further action.

Connected Sensor Data

Monitor the Conditions That Affect Collection Operations

Fill Condition

An ultrasonic sensor measures the distance between the sensor and the waste surface. Autonautics can translate this measurement into a bin condition after the sensor has been configured for the bin.

High Temperature

An internal temperature sensor can generate an alert when the configured temperature threshold is exceeded. This helps the control-room team investigate a potential fire or abnormal heat condition.

Tilt or Fall

A three-axis accelerometer can detect when the bin moves beyond its configured angle. The resulting alert may indicate that the bin has fallen, moved or requires inspection.

Battery and Device Health

Low-battery alerts help teams plan sensor maintenance. Periodic device reports also help confirm that the sensor remains connected and operational.

Optional Location

Selected sensor variants can include GPS. Standard sensors can use the registered installation location assigned to the bin within the platform.

One Operational View

Connect Bins, Vehicles and Collection Work

Autonautics brings sensor information and collection operations into one environment, helping teams move from awareness to action without relying on disconnected calls and spreadsheets.

The Autonautics smart waste solution can support organisations responsible for bins and collection vehicles across multiple locations.

Operational Outcomes

Improve Visibility and Collection Coordination

Earlier Awareness

Identify full-bin, high-temperature, tilt and low-battery conditions without waiting for a manual report.

Better Prioritisation

Use current bin conditions to determine which locations require attention first.

Faster Coordination

Connect control-room alerts with vehicle visibility and job scheduling.

Fewer Unnecessary Checks

Use remote sensor information to reduce avoidable physical inspections.

Clearer Job Progress

Follow assigned collection work from scheduling through completion.

Better Operational Planning

Use historical events and collection records to understand recurring demand and service patterns.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Smart waste-bin monitoring uses connected sensors to report bin conditions remotely. Autonautics receives the sensor information and presents it through dashboards, maps and operational alerts.

A compatible sensor can monitor the distance to the waste surface, internal temperature, tilt angle, battery condition and device connectivity. Available measurements depend on the selected sensor model and configuration.

An ultrasonic sensor measures the space between the sensor and the waste surface. The configured threshold and bin dimensions determine when Autonautics presents the bin as requiring collection.

The sensor can generate a high-temperature alert when its configured threshold is exceeded. The alert can indicate a possible fire or abnormal heat condition that requires investigation. It does not replace approved fire-detection or emergency systems.

A tilt sensor can detect when the bin moves beyond its configured angle. This may indicate that the bin has fallen, moved or been disturbed, allowing the control-room team to investigate.

No. GPS is available only on selected sensor variants. Standard sensors can appear on the Autonautics map using the registered location assigned during installation.

When a bin requires attention, the control-room team can review nearby collection vehicles, create a job in Autonautics Job Scheduling and assign it to an appropriate driver or team.

Yes. Operators can monitor the assigned vehicle’s movement and review the collection job’s status until it has been completed or marked for further action.

Compatible smart-bin deployments can use LoRaWAN connectivity where suitable gateway coverage and the correct regional frequency configuration are available. Anstel selects the appropriate sensor and connectivity method based on the site, hardware and operational requirements.

Yes. Fill, temperature and tilt thresholds can be configured according to the selected sensor and deployment requirements. Fill detection should be calibrated for the dimensions and installation position of each bin type.

Anstel configures and supports the compatible sensors, connectivity and Autonautics platform used for the smart waste deployment.
